Round 3: Of Daffodils and Tiger-Eyes

This is for Round 3 of the Broadway characters model challenge being held by  of in which everyone was assigned (with some input of their own if they choose to give it) a flower and a precious or semi-precious stone from which to draw their inspiration.  For Ashley, Cinderella and her Prince's daughter from "Into The Woods", I suggested Daffodils and Tigers-Eye.  Going with her apparent theme of yellow, I felt that Daffodils were fitting for her because they're very cheerful-looking flowers, and they're also some of the first flowers that show up in the spring, which would also endear them to her.  As for Tigers-Eye, I liked the rich golden and brown tones that most of it has, and I felt she would also, as well as the fact that she's very imaginative, and she would probably like the fact that a lot of those stones look like they almost have a picture of some kind in them.  (It would also be more available to her, considering she's a commoner.)  

Making the Daffodils weren't very hard, to be honest, and I really like how they turned out on her outfit.  Finding a way to represent the Tigers-Eye was another matter entirely, but I think the color blending I did on her bodice does a halfway decent job of showing the types of shades that show up in it.  And as usual, she's once again worked her mother's old silver flower necklace into a hair ornament for "good luck".

I imagine that so far, she's greatly enjoyed going to the various galas for each of these challenges, and both times before, I think she's just almost worked-up the courage to approach the King, her Father, and at least try to strike up a conversation.  But she's never quite managed it.  Until this night!  And it was completely by accident.  She was talking with a few other girls that she knew from the village about how much fun it had been for her "Big Sis" (The Baker and Wife's daughter, who's become like an older sister to her since she still lives in that household) and her to make their outfits when she turned around intending to go back to the snack table for some more of those delicious "little cakes" and *WHAM!* she ran right into someone, taking a bit of a tumble.  To her shock, she looked up and saw none-other than the King himself there, asking her politely if she was alright, and extending his hand to help her up. She stammered some sort of apology as she accepted his hand, her cheeks turning a bright pink.  She couldn't hardly look him in the face, she was so nervous, and with the way kept casting her gaze at her own shoes, he saw almost nothing of her except her rich, auburn hair (almost the same shade as his) and a glittering, silver flower tucked into her hair. He idly thought that something about it seemed familiar, but before he could ask, she stammered another apology and quickly made an exit. He looked after her for a little bit, but then other matters caught his attention, and he put it from his mind, for the time being.  
Ashley couldn't even explain to herself why she was so frightened, as she left a bit early from the ball.  Wasn't that what she had wanted? An opportunity to talk to the man who was her Father, though he didn't know it?  Was she afraid that he might guess who she was?  Or more afraid that he wouldn't?  And if he did, would it matter to him?  Would her life change completely?  Would he ask her to come live in the palace?  Would he not?  Would he care?  Or would he wish she wasn't even there?  So many questions, and so many possibilities, and any or all of them would somehow change everything about the life she had always known.  She wasn't sure if she had the courage to face that.  At least... not yet.  But, there would be more balls.  She would just have to see what happened.


(I'm SORRY this is so late! A lot of real-stuff has been going on. Not necessarily bad, but stuff anyway, and I haven't had much time for doll-making. I'm so far behind in all of the challenges I'm in, it isn't even funny. *sigh* I'm going to be trying to catch-up but I honestly might have to drop-out of a few of them. I'm not planning on dropping this one though! Not if I don't have to.  As always, feedback is both welcome and appreciated.)
