Round 8: The 40's, A Glimpse Through Time

Description

This is for Round 8 of the fashion challenge being held by :iconbutterflycystal: of :iconnew-royalty: in which we were each given a different era as inspiration.  We were also given example pictures, but she made it clear that we didn't need to try to recreate them, and were in fact encouraged to research our given eras and make whatever sort of outfit we wanted as long as it fit with that time period.  I was given the 1940's.  At first I was a little disappointed, as the clothes seemed a bit plain, but upon researching, I was reminded that the first half of that decade was during WWII, which had quite an impact on fashion.  Dresses were shortened from the previous decade due to a general shortage of fabric, and women started wearing dress-suits as it made it easier to coordinate clothing items to make different outfits.  Other items that had previously been excessively decorated, like shoes, hats and purses were a bit more toned-down, (though by today's standards, the hats were still a bit on the odd side. *LOL*) and at least during the war years, more subdued colors were often employed.

Keeping that in mind, I decided to take on the challenge of making Angela Pan a dress-suit.  I had to make the skirt from scratch, as I found out that most ladies were wearing simple, A-line skirts, and nothing available through the program quite worked. I also made some modifications to turn one of the vest options into the jacket part of the suit.  Partway through, the outfit I was making, which was in browns and olive green, was making me think of something military-like, which wasn't exactly the vibe I was going for.  So, I decided to turn her plain, brown suit into a brown and green tweed.  I'm still not sure it looks exactly like tweed, but at least it doesn't look like she's trying to be in the Army. *LOL* Which, honestly, I wouldn't put it past Angela.  After the main part of the outfit was done, I realized I couldn't go this far and NOT give her a weird hat.  And boy, did it turn out weird. *LOL*  But, I really like how the main feather turned out.  It's a bit of a nod to the red feather her father wore long, long ago.  And the purse was just another "why the heck not?" thing, but I like how it turned-out too.  Any feedback is welcome of course.

Peter Pan and Wendy Darling and all other associated characters were created by J. M. Barrie.
Angela Pan's appearance was created by butterflycystal and the actual character was made by me, with much MUCH inspiration from many Peter Pan incarnations.

This looks fantastic, and you put in so much detail on Angela's outfit, the skirt, the hat (along with the feathers), the shirt, and the purse are fantastic!

She looks truly stunning to wear an outfit in the 40s!
